The cruise will be a 4 1/2 hour, fully narrated cruise into the protected waters of Prince William sound following a 135 mile route. You will see the pristine areas of Barry Arm College and Harriman Fjords where there are 26 "named glaciers" and many more unnamed. The types of glaciers seen are hanging or alpine, piedmont and tidewater glaciers.
Sea life includes sea otters, seals, porpoises, and whales. Of the 200 species of bird life inhabiting the area, bald eagles are prominent. Another highlight is the Kittiwake bird rookery with its rocky cliffs and unusual waterfall. Land based wildlife often seen are mountain goats climbing the steep cliffs next to the glaciers.
Rain or shine, the sights and scenery are spectacular. Overcast skies bring out the brilliant blues of the glaciers. The vessel will get within 400 feet of towering walls of ice where you can "hear" the glacier moving and cracking as well as see giant pieces calving into the sea.
The MV KLONDIKE EXPRESS is a high-speed catamaran furnishing deluxe transportation and first class comfort, to the many tidewater glaciers and wildlife viewing areas of Prince William Sound. The catamaran design provides the most stable cruise possible. The vessel has three decks with enclosed lounges. Additional amenities include a galley, saloon, snack bar, and gift shop.
