• Original blood tests to determine blood type, HIV, and STD. Tests must be performed in the destination. Results generally take 24 hours to receive and are valid for up to 14 days. If tests are positive, the wedding ceremony cannot be performed.
• Four witnesses with valid passports. Witnesses may be provided by the hotel if you do not have witnesses traveling with you.
• Divorced individuals must provide a certified copy of the divorce decree. If you are divorced more than once, a certified copy of each divorce decree is required. Women are not allowed to re-marry in Mexico for 300 days following their divorce. For women who have been divorced less than one year, a pregnancy test must be performed in the destination. If the test is positive, the wedding ceremony cannot be performed.
• Widowed individuals must provide a certified copy of the former spouses death certificate.
• Names on passport and birth certificate must match. If names do not match due to divorce or death, then the name on the certified copy of the birth certificate should be the name used on the tourist card upon entering Mexico. This name will also be used as the maiden name on the wedding application.
• Birth certificates, name change, adoption, divorce decree, and death certificate all require an Apostille seal attached for use in Mexico. The Apostille seal is the official seal of the Secretary of State from the state where the document was originally issued to certify its use in a country. This is not the same as a notary public stamp. The process of obtaining an Apostille is done via mail. Call your Secretary of States Notary Public to find out the mailing address and forward your documents to them with a small fee (if applicable) for processing. Once complete, the original documents will be returned to you with the seal. You do not have to do anything in person. You should plan additional time to complete this process prior to travel.
• Birth and death certificates submitted with the marriage application remain on file in Mexico and will not be returned to you.
• All documents must be translated into Spanish by an on-site translator (available at hotel)
