Weddings in Antigua

Getting married in Antigua requires couples be on the island at least 48 hours prior to submitting an application for license. Blood tests are not needed, but the following documentation is:

  • Applications and/or documents required: Bring along original copies of the following (and be sure these are packed in carry-on luggage, never in checked bags). It is also recommended to bring two copies of all documentation:
    • Valid passport or certified copies of birth certificate
    • Certified copy of the divorce decree or a certified copy of death certificate, if divorced or widowed
    • If a name has been changed, a Deed Poll is required
    • Written parental consent for those under 18 years of age
  • Residency requirements: 48 hours, which must include 1 business day
  • Blood test: None
  • Other requirements:
    • Hotels may also have their own requirements, such as a minimum number of nights or rooms, minimum room category, etc. Check with the hotel for their specific requirements.
    • Weddings must take place between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00pm
    • Obtaining marriage license: Most couples work with their resort's wedding coordinator to handle the paperwork details. They can also make arrangements on their own by calling the Ministry of Justice in St. John in advance of their trip.
    • All legal documents must be in English or legally translated into English. All translated documents must be from a legal translator with letterhead, stamp, and seal from the translator's office.
