Rental Requirements
- Valid driver's license and major credit card is required. (Accepted credit cards: American Express, Visa, Diners, Discover and Mastercard)
- A valid passport
Minimum/Maximum Age
- Minimum rental age is 21 - no maximum. Young renter fee is typically $25.00/per day for ages 21-24 however may vary by location.
- Renters under 25 years of age may be restricted to specific car classes, including economy to full size cars.
- In the state of New York, the minimum age is 18 years of age. Authorized drivers (ages 18-24) must pay an inclusive, an insurance recovery fee of $49.37 per day in lieu of an underage driver fee.

Rates do not include the following, which are payable to National at time of rental:- Gas - 2 fuel options:
A full tank of gas can be purchased at the time of rental so the renter does not have to worry about taking time to stop and refuel before returning the car (no credit for remaining fuel). Or, the vehicle is rented with a full tank and the renter is responsible for refueling at the end of the rental. - Additional coverage - SLI, LDW, PAI/PEC
- All taxes and surcharges
- Additional driver
- Additional hourly charges, underage fees or one-way drop charges
Rental Days Information
National Car Rental operates on a 24-hour clock. Customers receive a 59-minute grace period when returning the vehicle. Example: Check out is 12 noon - Check in must be no later than 12:59 pm. Once the customer passes the 59-minute grace period, another charge day will apply. If a customer extends the rental anytime after the vehicle has been picked up at the rental location, regardless if an additional voucher is presented, a fee $10.99 per day will be assessed in addition to the applicable rates. These fees will be payable by the customer.
Driver Eligibility Policy
All renters are subject to a license check. Renters are deemed eligible or ineligible to rent from National at the time of rental. Under the policy's guidelines, eligibility will be based on two categories: - National will not turn someone away due to a ticket for a seatbelt violation
- The status of the driver's license - renters will be rejected if their driver's license is suspended, revoked, expired, invalid, surrendered, or non existent
- The status of the driving record - renters will be rejected for any of the following: Two or more convictions within the last 36 months for moving traffic violations involving accidents OR three or more convictions within the last 36 months for moving violations.
Insurance Coverage
LDW - Loss and Damage Waiver:- LDW limits the renters finanical responsibility for loss or damage to the rental vehicle. LDW is available for purchase in the US and Canada. Prices vary by location $21.99 per day or less.
SLI - Supplemental liability:- SLI provides additional protection up to $1 million for claims against authorized drivers of the rental vehicle for automobile related third party injury/death and property damage. SLI is available for purchase in the US. Prices vary by location
Personal Accident Insurance/ Personal Effects Coverage - PAI/PEC:- PAI provides accidental death and dismemberment benefits to the renter of the vehicle and its occupants.
- PEC covers the personal effects owned by the renter and the members of their immediate family against loss or damage. PAI/PEC are available for purchase in the US. Prices vary by location $2.00-$8.95
Additional Drivers
Cash Qualification
To cash qualify, customer must contact the renting location and request a cash qualification application. The application must be completed and returned to the renting city manager at least 48 hours prior to rental date. The city manager will then process and approve the cash qualification rental. A deposit in the amount of estimated rentals will be required.
Handicap
- National Car Rental offers hand controls at no extra charge
- A 24-hour advance request is required for hand controls
National prefers to apply hand controls to full-size or larger vehicles but will accommodate customer's request. Handicap lifts are NOT offered by National. Child Seat Information
- Child/infant restraint seats are required by law and must be reserved in advance.
- The charge for child/infant seat is $6.99/day with a $50 deposit. Price is subject to change.
Note: A car seat that is requested in advance is always guaranteed to be available.
Airport Access Tax
Taxes and surcharges: Rates do not include any airport and/ or governmentally imposed or authorized/ taxes/ concession recoupment fees and/ or other fees which may apply. Taxes and any other fees are subject to change without notice. Concession recoupment fee: This fee is to be collected by National for use of the airport facilities. The concession recoupment fee will vary depending on the airport location and is payable by the customer at the time of pick up.
